Sign of the Times

Today was a good day. Aveline actually took a two hour nap. Woo Hoo! I was able to get some things done. I had to trick her into napping. It is amazing how the swing puts her out and keeps her out. She also was in bed before 10pm. I am hoping to gradually gage her back to 9pm bedtime. I am also trying to get her to take naps each day. She does not like to be put down for naps. I don't like to let her cry. We are doing what is best for us.

Because of her nap, I was able to prepare dinner tonight. It was a stir fry...pork tenderloins marinated in leftover kabob marinade with green peppers, broccoli, scallions, pineapple and zucchini. It was delicious! Again, I left out the rice.

We had a Margherita flatbread for lunch. I brushed a piece of lavash flatbread with olive oil, topped it with minced garlic, mozzarella cheese, sliced tomatoes and fresh basil. That was very good, and pretty light. Dan loved it!

Aveline spent most of the afternoon alternating meal time with playtime. She is also becoming quite the talker. She jabbers away, Lord knows what she is saying. Dan and I have batted around the idea of teaching her sign language. I guess it is the hot thing to do right now with babies. The premise makes sense to us. Babies cry and fuss out of frustration due to a lack of communication skills. Their ability to express themselves verbally lags behind their need to express themselves period. Most babies develop their own "signs" to communicate their needs. So why not just take the next step and teach her something useful for her future and helpful for Dan and I to meet her needs now. Dan found this cool website that has short video clips of ASL signs for thousands of words. I have linked to it here. We will have to read more about this possibility, but so far we are both excited. Dan already is working on teaching her "milk" and "daddy." I guess I better go look up "mommy."


Aveline will have a new cousin in December! Laura and Josh foundout that they are having a little boy. His name will be Isaac Truman, barring any last minute changes. Cheyanna Kay will be here in October. Lots of new playmates to meet!
