Monday in the Park

We are used to getting a lot of strange looks due to our non-traditional lifestyle. No, I'm not talking about extra wives stashed in the basement or Hare Krishna robes, but rather our very different time table. Working retail and restaurant, we often have our "weekends" on Wednesday and Thursday, our holidays fall a day or two on either side of the norm, and our commute is usually completely opposite your average nine to fiver. This can make melding with normal society a bit hectic and stressful, especially when people don't understand that Saturday is a work day. So is Christmas Eve.

There are some perks to a non-traditional time schedule. We rarely have to wait at restaurants for a table on our "weekend." We never get caught in traffic jams on our way to work. Stores, parks and activities are also empty, with few people to see. The people we do see, though, must think we are unemployed.

The park a few blocks from our house was deserted when we arrived at 10:45 am. We had a good uphill hike to the glade, me being the slowest link in the chain. Aveline got to swing, climb and run without interruption. Elvis and I hung back in the shade while Dan chased our firecracker in zig zags. Overall, it was a nice outing, lasting nearly ninety minutes. Cheap family time on our schedule. You gotta love that.

Looks like you all had a great time.

We won't be visiting the park here until fall, for obvious reasons (112 degrees here).

looks like fun! I may be anti social, but after reading that, a non-typical schedule doesnt sound all that bad.
