Philip V. Calcagno

In an age when getting ahead seems to be all that matters, few men in this world live a life filled with honor and kindness. During his time here on earth, Philip V. Calcagno strived to do just that. A former member of the NYPD, Mr. Calcagno retired from the force to pursue a career in business. He earned his masters degree and started his new career.

On the job, his colleagues admired his infinite patience and understanding. He often took the time to "father" many of the younger people with whom he worked, giving advice on subjects from life to overseas accounts. He always said "Hello" and greeted people with a smile. Many remarked at his resemblence to Joe Torre, the manager of the Yankees.

Other coworkers remember his great sense of humor and his fondness of practical jokes. He was also known to bring trays of cookies to honor fellow employees' birthdays. His humor and spirit of giving live on with those he touched.

Beyond his career, Mr. Calcagno was centered by his family. He openly showed affection to his wife Susie and his two daughters, Kris and Karen. He, like any good grandfather, absolutely adored his grandchildren, often speaking about them with a glint in his eye. If not with family, he often could be found gardening.

Mr. Calcagno worked as an assistant vice president for Marsh and McLennan, located in the World Trade Center.

Although I did not know him, I know people like him. I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends, as I am sure he is sorely missed.
