Bragging Writes: Growth Spurt Hangovers and the Mystery of the Second Child

Everyone with more than one child knows how the joke goes. The first child collects an album bursting with pictures documenting everything from first steps to first hangnail. Meanwhile, the second child may get a zip-loc baggie's worth of snapshots to prove she was not abandoned by aliens and adopted by the family at age 6. I now understand how this phenomenom happens. With the first, you have plenty of time and energy to capture all of those monumentous moments. Once the second child is here, you are lucky to shower weekly or even eat meals that aren't room temperature let alone find the camera to take pictures.

Scarlett is still here. I am going to make a strong effort to post more pictures, per request. We have just survived our first growth spurt. For those of you that aren't parents, that just means I have spent most of the last two days feeding our bottomless pit of a daughter. I barely got off of the couch to pee. Today, she is sleeping the growth spurt off. Think of it like binge drinking in college or going on a weekend bender. She parties it up, chugging milk all hours of the day, gets very little sleep and is super demanding. She's got one hell of a hangover today, waking only to take 3 or 4 ounces before passing out again. Babies have the life.

Be sure to compare her chunky face from day 8 to day 12. She's definitely putting on some heft!
