Treasure Found!

For more background information, see this.

In December 2003, I watched in horror as my stout fingers swelled. I had heard that pregnant fingers thickened right along with the waistline, sometimes bloating beyond what normal jewelry can sustain. Afraid I may have to get my precious wedding rings cut off of me during my third trimester, as the urban legend goes, I doffed my rings and put them away for safe keeping.

We moved from a tiny apartment to our modest home during that pregnancy, and Dan and I took special care to pack the rings in a box we would open right away. We never found that box during the unpacking process. We have search what I thought was every box in the house. We refused to even throw empty boxes out, for the impossible chance that we missed the rings. For our second anniversary, I asked Dan to find them as his gift to me.

Today, while rummaging for baby clothes, I found a box with some odds and ends in it. In the box, I noticed a silver urn for which I had yet to find a home. As I moved the urn aside to reveal the contents below, two jewelry boxes caught my eye within the urn. I fished out the boxes and open each. One contained a few pairs of valuable earrings, the other, my rings. After nearly 23 months and the birth of two children, I am finally wearing my wedding rings again. The only way these are coming off my fingers now is if they cut them off in the emergency room (which, may be a very real possiblility since my fingers have swollen quite a bit during the last two years!)

Very happy you found them! You can get them sized. Or do what I did and by your ring several sizes bigger and "Grow" into it.

That's great! I can totally relate to that - but I am missing pictures that I know I have somewhere in my house in a box from our last move that have yet to be found. Isn't it bizarre how these things just seem to turn up out of the blue?

I seem to have misplaced my youth somewhere. Next time you and Dan are in Pittsburgh, could you stop over and help me look?
